This women’s only backpacking excursion will take us on a 8.5 mile trek to Coast Camp in Point Reyes. This trail is mostly flat with little elevation gain and fairly even footing. It offers a scenic trek through the redwoods and then follows the coast offering great ocean views. Once at the group campground, we will set up camp, where there is potable water and pit toilets. We will enjoy an afternoon of relaxation and socialization with opportunities to hang at or walk along the beach. Our evening will be spent under the stars with plenty of time to socialize before settling into our tents for the night. The following morning we will enjoy the sunrise, have breakfast, break down camp and head back down the trail between 10:00am and Noon depending on the preferences of the group. Throughout the day, participants will learn about properly packing and wearing a backpack, locating an appropriate campsite, tent set up, sleeping systems, water filtration, meal prep, fire making (if permitted), and leave no trace principles.
Participants will meet at the Bear Valley Trailhead Parking Lot https://maps.app.goo.gl/EMQwrJu6ocwPdkdY8 at 7:30 am. There, we will distribute gear to any who purchased the gear package, and do a pack check before setting off.
Skill Level: While no backpacking experience is required, participants should have some hiking experience with distances close to 8 miles. This trip does require that you be able to walk with a pack, weighing 25-30 lbs, for a short distance.
Each participant will carry their own pack with their personal belongings. Provided equipment, and group food/cooking equipment will be split among the participants who purchased it to distribute the weight.
What is included in the set fee: Trip/logistical planning and the knowledge of an experienced guide. My focus is on eliminating any barriers that may prevent women from embracing their full potential through outdoor exploration. The small groups allow ample opportunity for me to support all participants while educating, encouraging and empowering. I am wilderness first aid certified and carry an emergency device. This fee also includes any required permits
What is included in the Gear Add On: 3 person tents (double occupancy), sleeping bags (zero degree), sleeping pads, backpacks, hiking poles (if desired), shared water filtration system, head lamps,
What is included in the Food Add On: Day 1 home made dinner (Vegetarian options available and I can accommodate gluten free dietary restrictions), dessert, Day 2 breakfast, and tea/coffee, hot cocoa.
What is not included: Transportation to/from the trailhead, trail snacks/lunch for day 1 and 2, gratuities.
It is important to remember that carrying 25-30 pounds on your back is much easier than carrying it in your arms. Packs are designed for the bulk of the weight to sit on your hips with your legs doing the work. Equally important is to remember that we have to carry anything we are taking so being selective in what we take is important. Participants will be provided a detailed packing list, prior to the event, with a virtual meeting 2 weeks prior to the event to iron out specific details.
