Greetings fellow adventurers. Let’s take the morning to hike a loop around Lagoon Valley.
This hike will be in the hills, not the flats around the water, and will involve some uphill sections. We may be walking on paved paths, gravel fire roads, or dirt single track trails. The exact route may vary, depending upon the skill level of the group. No matter what, we are going to have an amazing time exploring the area.
We will meet at the rock area at the end of Butcher Road where the paved trail begins. Making our way up to what I call “Tower 1,” we will get our first glimpse of the lagoon below, and the amazing Vacaville hills. We will travel across the ridge, and then up again to “Tower 2” to visit what I know to be one of the most iconic trees in the park (Yes it is the feature image). Although the swing is now gone, and the tree is crumbling due to its age, what is left of it still stands proudly. You don’t want to miss it.
Again, we will travel across the ridge and meet up with the gravel fire road that will take us up to tower 3 where on a clear day you can see Mount Diablo and Mount Tam, in all their glory, off in the distance. You may even be able to see the wind turbines in Rio Vista. From here, we will take a less traveled single track trail down what I refer to as the back side of the mountain. Off the beaten path, you may be blessed with sharing the hillside with the grazing cattle and if you are really lucky frolicking calf. Once down off the hill, we will follow essentially flat trails and roads back to the bike path that will return us to our cars.
I do have rental gear available if you feel you could benefit from hiking poles ($3/ea or $5/pair) and hydration day packs ($5). If interested, please feel free to reach out via the contact form to make arrangements.
What a beautiful way to start your day. Join me
